A Nature Inspiration and Consultation Program for Residential Landscapes
Deep Roots envisions an ever-growing mosaic of native plant landscapes across the Kansas City region, including even the smallest urban yard.
The Nature Advisors Program offers advice in:
- Landscaping with native plant species
- The removal of invasive plant species such as bush honeysuckle and wintercreeper
- Water-wise practices for urban landscapes, and
- Other stewardship principles that promote healthy habitat for native birds, insects, and other wildlife – and people.
- For a nominal program fee, based on the size of your residential landscape, our expert Nature Advisor Volunteers will visit your property to conduct a personalized habitat landscape consultation.
- A comprehensive written report will be included, offering you a broad menu of recommendations to improve your landscape’s ecological value. Appropriate native plant species and management resources, along with a list of professional contractors who specialize in native landscapes, will be included in that report.
- Program fees begin at $75 for most urban residences less than ½ acre in size.
- Up to 2 acres – $100
- 2-5 acres – $150*
- Scholarship opportunities are available.
*Properties over 5 acres exceed the capacity and expertise of this volunteer-supported program. Please reach out to our program manager, Chris Cardwell – Chris@deeprootskc.org, to find opportunities and resources for larger acreage landowners, including regional agencies and local, state, and federal conservation planning programs.
